  • Little Me: My life from A-Z

    Matt Lucas

Paperback (Canongate Books, Oct. 2, 2018)
This is the story of little me, from pudgy, awkward child to pudgy, slightly less awkward adult – via school musicals, adolescent angst, stand-up, Shooting Stars, Little Britain, Doctor Who, love, loss, wigs and giant pink babygros. And, in case your attention span is as short as mine, it comes in a handy A to Z format. So B is for Baldy! (yes, people did shout this at me in the playground), G is for Gay (because I'm an actual real life gay) and I is for Idiot (I was born a berk. I probably even stubbed my toe on the way out).It will warm your heart, make you snort out loud in public and there’s even a catchy song in the middle. What I’m saying is, please buy this book. It is VERY good. I know I’m biased because I wrote it but it is.
  • Little Me: My autobiography

    Matt Lucas

eBook (Canongate Books, Oct. 3, 2017)
The hilarious, heart-warming and tear-jerking memoir from one of Britain's best-loved comedians and actors, Matt Lucas.Hello there. Welcome to my autobiography. Throughout this book I talk about my life and work, including Little Britain, Come Fly With Me, Bridesmaids, Les Miserables, Alice In Wonderland and, of course, Shooting Stars. The thing is, this is a bit different to most memoirs you may have read, because it comes in the form of an A-Z. For instance, B is for Baldy! - which is what people used to shout at me in the playground (not much fun), G is for Gay (because I'm an actual real life gay) and T is for the TARDIS (because I'm a companion in Doctor Who now). You get the sort of thing. Anyway I hope you buy it at least twice. Thank you.

  • A Life a Bit Less Ordinary: Bipolar Disorder for the Average Joe

    Mark Lucas

language (Austin Macauley Publishers Ltd, May 29, 2020)
It wasn’t meant to be like this. I won student of the year at college and then was nominated for national awards in the first year of my apprenticeship. I had come from inauspicious beginnings, but I was motivated and hard working. I had every intention of going places. And I did.It seems like every other week, another celebrity is diagnosed with bipolar disorder by the tabloid media. The public are led to believe that the latest superstars’ fall from grace is more deep-seated than over indulgence in drink or drugs; or is this sometimes just canny image management to remove any responsibility for bad behaviour?Mark Lucas takes us on a real journey of a bipolar life, as experienced by an everyman, complete with the humour and wit to balance the heartache and crises of this rollercoaster ride. Having been effectively labelled second rate at the end of his teens, Mark has had to fight for everything he has achieved and gritted his teeth through illness, ridicule and unfair treatment at work, and ostracism due to occasional incidences of illness and asks why, in a world obsessed with celebrating the self and individual rights, do the sufferers of mental health problems often have to live a lie whilst hiding in plain sight?
